Everyone has a story of what they did or didn’t achieve during lockdown, but I feel like mine is extra special! As I mentioned before I would regularly make up stories in my head and while on long walks (or when I used to run) would listen to music. One day I heard a song that made me drift into my thoughts, and I got to wondering what the song could have been about. That song was One More Try by George Michael and it inspired the book with the same name but then it became so much more. I came up with a story and during lockdown, with not much else to do (I even cleaned the top of my kitchen cupboards – not recommended at all!), I decided to try and start writing it all down. The previous year I had toyed with the idea and had invested in a keyboard to go with my iPad, but I kept putting it all off because, well, ‘life was busy’ was one excuse but the reality was that I was afraid to start typing and then run dry after only one page!

So, during lockdown I sat down with the iPad and started to write, the effect was the exact opposite of what I had feared because once I started with the story I couldn’t stop. The characters just kept coming to life for me and I not only found I had a story but was inspired to add to it, to give it a twist if you like (I am trying to avoid spoilers here!). Then book two and more were born so it became a series. Anyway, I wrote so much I broke the iPad keyboard so invested in a laptop, the first one of which was not great so immediately got passed on to my Mum (sorry Mum). I am a touch typist and using Google Docs on the laptop was so frustrating because it couldn’t keep up with my typing speed! I then invested in a MacBook which isn’t without its challenges (mostly due to software not being compatible I suspect) but it’s an amazing piece of kit and I’ve never looked back. My family and I were once in Manchester visiting a football stadium and my husband left my suitcase behind, by the time we realized it and ran back it was surrounded by security and the guy said they were about to destroy it so I wrestled him to the ground and got it back, over my dead body you will: that has my MacBook in it! OK I didn’t wrestle him to the ground but I thought about it.

So, that is how One More Try (affectionately known as OMT by … well just me) started out. I can’t wait to share the journey with you all, if you’ll let me … it all begins here … so hang on tight as there may be some bumps along the way! 😊
